Beware of Phoney Internet Scams

D-14 Brighton, Massachusetts: Recently a Brighton resident became the victim of an internet scam. The victim was advertising on Craigslist for teaching services. The victim got a response from an out of state resident for her services. The out-of state resident send a payment check and then before the Brighton resident could cash the check, the out of state resident informed the Brighton resident that he/she had overpaid the Brighton resident by $2000.00 and asked for the difference to be sent to another person. The Brighton resident did as she was told and lost the $2000.00. The original check which the out of state resident sent was from a fake account. Don't you become a victim. If you become aware of a simuliar situtaion or become a victim please call the Boston Police @911 or 1-800-494-TIPS and report this.
