National Night Out Boston 2008 “The Power of Neighbors”
National Night Out
Boston 2008 "The Power of Neighbors" is the 25th annual citywide
celebration. This program cultivates and strengthens partnerships between the
community, youth, Police, city agencies and community-based organizations.
National Night Out also acknowledges the remarkable contributions of
Neighborhood Crime Watch groups, and seeks to increase participation in
Neighborhood Crime Watch programs among local residents.
The National Night Out celebrations in Boston will commence on Friday, July 19
with district police celebrations across the city and neighborhood Block
Parties, Garden Events, Porch/Stoop Sits, and Light On events will take place
across the city and the event will wrap-up with a city-wide celebration at
Franklin Park Zoo, on Tuesday August 3, 2008, 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
District Events and Block Parties: July 19, to Sunday, August 3
- Each Police District in Boston will host is a
district wide celebration – dates, times, and locations to be announced.
- Neighborhood Crime Watch groups will host Block
Parties, Porch Sits, Neighborhood Walks, and Lights On events - dates,
times, and locations to be announced.
Poster Contest Awards Ceremony: July 25, 2008, 12:00 to 2:00 PM, Fairmont
Copley Plaza.
- Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Police Commissioner Ed
Davis will recognize winners of the "Text for Peace - Text 'Tip' to
Crime (27463)" poster contest.
Salute to the Neighborhoods: Monday, August 4, location and time TBD.

Davis will recognize the cities Top Ten Neighborhood Crime Watch groups of
the year as well as the crime fighter of the year. Location and time to be
determined.
City Wide Celebration at the Franklin Park Zoo, Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 5:00 to 8:00
PM.
