CHARLESTOWN - BREAKING & ENTERING OF MOTOR VEHICLES

A-1 Downtown Boston, Massachusetts: District A-1 has been experiencing a recent rash of motor vehicle breaks in the neighborhood of Charlestown that have been taking place in all areas of the town. District A-1 would like to offer some target hardening tips to Charlestown residents that might deter criminal(s) from breaking into residents' motor vehicles.
- Never leave valuable items exposed to public view.
Remove valuable items from your motor vehicle or lock them in the trunk. Car phones, coats, briefcases, pocketbooks, gifts, etc. attract a thief to break into your car. Do not leave things in your car.
- Lock your doors and windows. An unlocked door is an open invitation to a thief. A thief will attempt to insert a wire into a slightly open window to pop up the door lock. Tapered door lock buttons make it more difficult for a thief to hook a wire or device onto the door lock button to pop it open.
- Invest in an anti-theft device. Protect your motor vehicle from being stolen. An audible alarm alerts attention to the motor vehicle. Anti-theft locking devises hold the steering wheel in place. Having an anti-theft device can also lower the cost of your auto insurance.
