Dear Reader,

As many of you know, the primary mission of the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department is to provide the proper care, custody, and control of inmates in order to assure the safety of the community at large.

Along with this task, however, we at the Department also pride ourselves on some of the work that we do externally to assist other organizations that dedicate valuable time and resources to provide services and support to the wide array of people who need them most.

In this month's edition of our Common Ground newsletter, we highlight one such organization with an article about the Department's participation in a charity event held to benefit the Special Olympics.

Also featured in the newsletter is a story about our collaboration with the West Roxbury District Court in their annual Law Day event, as well as an account of the recent tour through the Suffolk County House of Correction by the Chinese Prison Management Bureau, and several other items.

I hope that you enjoy this month's newsletter and I look forward to keeping you up to date and informed about the many programs and activities of the Sheriff's Department throughout the year.

With every good wish,

Sheriff Andrea J. Cabral
